Toyota Alphard hybrid to be resurrected

In Japan, Toyota says that it will be resurrecting the hybrid version of its Alphard MPV for the domestic market, in response to customer demand. The hybrid variant of the vehicle made its debut in 2003 with the first-generation Alphard, but production ceased in 2008.

According to reports, Toyota says that the new Alphard hybrid – which will wear a 150 PS 2AZ-FXE 2.4 litre four pot block as well as a 105 kW 2JM front / 50 kW 2FM rear electric motor combination – will get 19 km per litre, which is a 10% improvement over its predecessor. The company will also add a hybrid variant to the Vellfire. Both models go on sale in Japan in late November, and the company is targeting a combined monthly sales figure of 2,000 units.
